Bringing Hope and Healing

In the vast rural regions of Venezuela, access to reliable healthcare can be scarce. The María Auxiliadora “CASMA” Health Center, a non-profit foundation operating as an NGO, stands as a beacon of hope for thousands of families with little or no income. Its mission is simple yet vital: to promote and protect the physical and mental health of the community through medical care, outpatient clinics, and minor surgeries—all at prices families can afford.

How is CASMA Health Center Serves Rural Venezuela?  Each month, over 1,100 patients seek treatment at CASMA. Of these, nearly 600 require ultrasound scans, yet until recently, the Center lacked this critical equipment. Patients had no choice but to travel to private clinics where costs were often far out of reach.

The Need for Ultrasound Technology

Ultrasound is an essential tool for diagnosing gastrointestinal, cardiac, gynecological, and other conditions. Without it, many patients risk delays in care—or must forgo care altogether. That is why the Health Center urgently needed a portable Laptop Color Doppler Ultrasound Machine to provide fast, accurate, and affordable diagnoses right where patients live.

Transforming Patient Care

Thanks to the generosity of St. Anthony’s followers and devotees, CASMA received an $18,000 grant in 2023 to purchase this life-saving equipment. Today, patients no longer have to choose between their health and financial survival. The new Doppler Ultrasound allows doctors to detect illnesses more quickly, monitor ongoing conditions, and provide treatment with confidence.

The impact can be heard in the voices of those served:

  • Jacinto Pérez, 52 (Prostate ultrasound): “From the moment I arrived until I left, I received quality service from the administration and doctors. The prices are fair, and the equipment gave me the peace of mind I needed.”
  • Sofía Molina, 23 (Gynecology patient): “For the first time, I was able to clearly see my baby on the ultrasound screen. Having access to reliable equipment here is wonderful—and affordable.”
  • Coromoto Salazar, 55 (Thyroid ultrasound): “Before, I had to go to two different clinics for consultations and tests. Now I can do everything here at CASMA. God bless this center for helping those in need.”
  • Ramón Contreras, 65 (Abdominal ultrasound): “I’ve been a cardiology patient here for a year. With the new ultrasound, my doctor can monitor my heart health more closely. I feel truly safe here.”

A Doctor’s Perspective

Dr. Jorge Valderrama, a urologist at CASMA, shared how the new equipment has transformed care:
“The SonoScape E3 ultrasound machine gives us highly accurate and rapid diagnoses. Its compact size and high-resolution screen make it ideal for abdominal and superficial images, giving us reliable results and the best chance for accurate treatment decisions.”

Gratitude and Future Impact

The gift of this ultrasound machine has already touched countless lives—and will continue to do so for years to come. It is a reminder that generosity can directly translate into healing, dignity, and hope for vulnerable families.

Thanks to the faithful support of St. Anthony’s devotees, CASMA Health Center now has the tools to bring quality healthcare within reach for thousands of rural Venezuelans. Together, we are not only treating illness—we are restoring hope.
