Our beloved Saint died on June 13th, 1231, in a small monastery in Arcella, a little village on the outskirts of Padua. Anthony’s remains were then carried in a funeral procession to the friars’ church in Padua.
Since that day, many favors have been granted to all who called on the Saint for his intercession. There began the tradition of daily Masses invoking the aid of this beloved and powerful intercessor.
During his lifetime, St. Anthony was also renowned for acts that could not be explained by the laws of nature. Hence, he is known as ‘The Saint of Miracles.’ St. Anthony truly is a saint for all ages, his message of hope and love has withstood the test of time, and he continues to be beloved around the world.
Our Conventual Franciscan Friars are hugely privileged to be the sole guardians of St. Anthony’s Tomb in his Basilica in Padua, Italy. They are committed to bringing his holy relics to the United States for devotees to venerate.
